The Foundation

The Slifka Family Covenant

We are the Slifka family — a covenant household under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We exist to glorify God, to love one another sacrificially, and to raise up generations who know their God, walk in His ways, and advance His kingdom on the earth.

1

The Cross

Jesus Christ is Lord — the foundation of all we are and do. The cross divides the shield, reminding us that every aspect of family life is claimed by Christ's redemption.

2

The Tree of Life

Our family is rooted in God and bears fruit across generations. Deep roots precede great fruit — we invest in the unseen so the visible may flourish.

3

The Angel Wings (Cherubim)

We are guardians of family life, called to protect and nurture. As cherubim guarded the Garden, we guard the sacred space of our home.

4

The Crown

Christ is King over this household. We are heirs of His eternal kingdom — every Slifka is royalty by adoption through the blood of Jesus.

5

The Flaming Swords

The Sword of the Spirit — the Word of God — is our weapon and our light (Ephesians 6:17). The flame represents the Holy Spirit's fire, which never goes out in this house.

6

The Scroll Banner

The banner bearing our name is a scroll — a direct reference to the Bible as the living Word of God. Just as the Scriptures carry the name of God's people, our family name is written in the Book of Life. This is our Ephesians 6 family: clothed in the full Armor of God.

7

The Shield

The Shield of Faith (Ephesians 6:16) — with which we extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one. The divided shield declares that faith and family are inseparable: the Cross on the left, the Tree of Life on the right.

8

The Purple Field

Royal purple speaks of the blood of Christ and the royalty of our calling. We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession (1 Peter 2:9).

9

The Green Field

Forest green speaks of life, growth, and fruitfulness. We are planted by rivers of water, bearing fruit in every season (Psalm 1:3).

Ephesians 6:10–18

The Armor of God — Our Family Crest

Every element of the Slifka family crest is drawn from Ephesians 6 — the full Armor of God. The scroll banner bearing our family name is a direct reference to the Bible as the living Word of God. We are not merely a family; we are a household of warriors, clothed in the armor of the Most High.

The Seal of Our Covenant

The Slifka Signet Ring

In ancient times, a signet ring was the seal of authority, identity, and covenant. The Slifka signet ring is a physical reminder of who we are, whose we are, and what we stand for — passed down through every generation as a mark of our legacy.

The Cross

The central symbol of our faith. Jesus Christ crucified and risen is the foundation upon which every Slifka stands. The cross is not decoration — it is declaration.

Galatians 2:20

The Tree of Life

Our family is rooted in God and bears fruit across generations. Like a tree planted by streams of water, we are nourished by the Word and sustained by His Spirit.

Psalm 1:3

The Angel Wings

We are Guardians of Family Life — called to protect, nurture, and watch over those entrusted to us. The cherubim remind us of our sacred responsibility.

Psalm 91:11

The Crown

We serve the King of Kings. Every Slifka is an heir of His eternal kingdom. We wear the crown not of earthly achievement, but of faithful stewardship.

Revelation 2:10

The Swords

We wield the Sword of the Spirit — the Word of God — as our weapon, our guide, and our authority. We are warriors of faith, not of flesh.

Ephesians 6:17

The Name SLIFKA

Our name is our covenant identity. To bear the name Slifka is to carry the weight and honor of every generation that has gone before — and the responsibility to those who come after.

Proverbs 22:1

The Outer Ring

The 12 M's

Engraved around the outer border of the ring face are the 12 M's — the twelve domains of Slifka family life. They encircle the crest as a constant reminder that every area of life is to be lived under the authority of Christ and in service of the legacy.

About the Slifkas

We are a family on mission — rooted in faith, committed to one another, and called to leave the world better than we found it. This is not our story alone; it belongs to every generation that carries the Slifka name.

Our Mission: Guardians of Family Life

The Slifka family is rooted in the Chicagoland area — a family of faith, purpose, and covenant. We are parents and children, husbands and wives, builders and stewards, all bound together by the love of Christ and the conviction that family is the most important institution on earth.

These pages — this website, this book, this crest — represent a deliberate act of legacy-building: the decision to write down what we believe, how we live, and what we are passing on, so that no generation of Slifkas ever has to wonder who they are or where they came from.

This is our covenant with the future. Our mission is to be Guardians of Family Life — and we take that calling seriously.

"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

— Joshua 24:15

Rooted in Christ

The Slifka family was not built on success — it was built on surrender. Every chapter of our story begins with the same declaration: Jesus is Lord.

🏠

Built for Legacy

We are not living for the moment. Every decision, every sacrifice, every investment is made with the next generation in mind. We build what we will not fully see.

📖

Guided by Scripture

The Bible is not one voice among many in this home — it is the final word. We hold it, read it, memorize it, and live it as the supreme authority over our lives.

🌳

Committed to Family

Family is not a convenience — it is a covenant. We show up for each other in the ordinary moments and the extraordinary ones. We do not abandon; we endure.

A Word to Every Generation

"If you are reading this, you are part of something that was built before you were born and will outlast your time on earth. You are a Slifka. That name carries weight — not because of what we have achieved, but because of what we have believed and how we have lived."

— Brendan Slifka, Founding Generation
